If you have been in contact with your coach recently, you will know that Figure skating has FINALLY been approved to return to the ice under strict measures.
This took a huge effort from those involved in the process and they were made to run around and redo a lot of work as the rules were changed, sometimes on an hourly basis.
A HUGE thank you to Shern Allely and Vage Evetts for their work on this and in liaising with SAFSA Western Province, SAFSA HQ, Sun International and the Ice Station,
SAFSA would like to thank the Ice Station for their assistance in getting our sport back online, we would not be able to do this without their help, above and beyond what they are required to do.
The final logistical preparations are being finished and we anticipate a return to the ice very early next week. Times, sessions and slots will be advised by coaches.
Please remember that Figure Skating, Ice Hockey and the Ice Rink all fall under different sectoral determinations and sporting codes. Due to Figure Skating (a sport, governerned by the SA Dept of Sport) having its own approved set of protocols, our members are not allowed (under this policy) to skate in ANY sessions outside of those set by SAFSA. Likewise, no non-SAFSA member may make use of our ice time. This is one of the requirements set down by the Department which allows us to return under Level 3 instead of Level 2 or 1 as it originally appeared.
The relevant people are currently putting together the completed set of instructions and times for the commencement of training and these will be communicated as soon as they are available. The urgency is well understood.
Look out for more information and please check with your coach if you are uncertain about anything.
