SAFSA WP PATCH
PURPOSE
This policy outlines the rules and expectations for SAFSA WP members who wish to skate on SAFSA WP patch/sessions ensuring a safe, respectful and productive environment for all skaters.
REQUIREMENTS GOVERNING SAFSA WP SESSIONS
- SAFSA WP patch is available, exclusively to SAFSA WP members.
- Only SAFSA WP members, who are in good standing, may use the ice.
- Skaters must be current and valid members of SAFSA WP and comply with all policies, including payment of dues and fees.
- Payment of patch sessions is by way of the MVS (Most Valued Skater) card. It is your responsibility to ensure that your MVS card is signed before entering the rink and/or stepping onto the ice.
Visiting skater and/or coach
- If you are a visiting skater/coach from another province please contact SAFSA WP secretary, Karin Kuhn at karin.safsawp@gmail.com to get approval to skate on our SAFSA WP sessions, prior to your arrival in Cape Town.
- Once approval has been given, please contact our Skate Shop, at skateshop@icerink.co.za in order to purchase a skate card, which needs to be presented to the front desk before skating on any sessions.
- No prior approval is required should you wish to skate in the public sessions.
Returning SAFSA member
- Likewise, if you are a paid up SAFSA WP member, who has not competed in the current season, and is returning home to train, please contact our SAFSA WP secretary, Karin Kuhn at karin.safsawp@gmail.com who will inform the SAFSA WP Committee as a courtesy, that you are back in the country and intending to skate, prior to your arrival in Cape Town and thus allow us to give you a warm South African welcome
- Please contact the Skate Shop, at skateshop@icerink.co.za to purchase your MVS card, which needs to be presented to the front desk before skating on any sessions.
NON-COMPLIANCE
- Members who fail to follow the rules outlined in this policy may be subject to a verbal or a written warning, suspension and or loss of access to SAFSA WP sessions.
- Repeated violations may result in further disciplinary actions, including termination of SAFSA WP membership.
SAFSA WP SESSIONS - TERM TIME
MORNING SESSIONS
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: 5:00am to 7:30am
Monday to Friday: 7:30am to 10:00am
Saturday: 5:00am to 7:30am
REQUIREMENTS
- Open to all SAFSA WP members
- Open to all levels unless otherwise stipulated
PUBLIC PATCH SESSIONS
Monday to Friday: 10:00am to 12:15pm
REQUIREMENTS
- One is not required to be a SAFSA WP member to skate
- No programme music permitted
- No harness if more than 35 people are on the ice
- Skater's may not perform backward spirals and/or backflips
- The public has right of way
LUNCH TIME SESSIONS
Monday to Friday: 12:30pm to 2:00pm
REQUIREMENTS
- Only Junior and Senior skaters
- Must be actively competing in Div A in the current season
- Must have a SAFSA approved head coach
- Must be taking a minimum of 2 lessons a week
- No backflips may be performed
PUBLIC PATCH SESSIONS
Monday to Friday: 2:00pm to 4:00pm
REQUIREMENTS
- One is not required to be a SAFSA WP member to skate
- No programme music permitted
- No harness may be use in the afternoon patch
- Skater's may not perform backward spirals and/or backflips
- The public has right of way
EVENING SESSIONS
Monday to Thursday: 4:15pm to 6:00pm
REQUIREMENTS
- Open to all SAFSA WP members
- Open to all levels
DEVELOPMENT
Wednesday Evenings (according to school terms only)
REQUIREMENTS
- If skater is a SAFSA WP member they may skate from 4:15pm
- If the skater is not a SAFSA WP member they may skate from 5:00pm from behind the red line
SAFSA WP SESSIONS - SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
APRIL AND OCTOBER HOLIDAYS
(leading into Nationals and CIP)
MORNING SESSIONS
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: 5:00am to 7:30am
Monday to Friday: 7:45am to 10:00am
Saturday: 5:00am to 7:30am

This policy may be reviewed, amended and/or updated by the SAFSA WP Committee to align with the rules and requirements of the Cape Peninsula Ice Skating Club.
