About Western Province Figure Skating

Welcome to the home of Figure Skating in the Province. Our sport is governed by the Western Province branch of the South African Figure Skating Association (SAFSA).

As the largest skating community in the country, we are fortunate to be able to offer Free Skating (solo), Pairs Skating, Ice-Dance and Synchronised Skating as well as a robust "Learn to Skate" program.

Excellence Through Dedication

Full-time coaches as well as dedicated ice time help our skaters achieve high levels of competitiveness, with many of our skaters representing Western Province at a National level, and some of these representing South Africa on the international circuit.

Figure skating is a complex sport, both technically (on the ice) as well as understanding how a skater progresses through the ranks. SAFSA (WP) has recently introduced an induction program for new members, giving skaters and parents vital information and points of reference to help smooth this process.

Our professional coaches provide personalized instruction for skaters at all levels

Black Panthers Club

Our ice skating club offers group ice skating lessons at The Ice Station, in Cape Town. Our ice skating lessons take place on a Saturday morning from 8am to 10am and are for skaters of all ages and skill levels. The club offers ice skating classes to skaters from as young as 4 years old. Skaters of all skill levels are welcome to join our club, even if it is your first time on the ice. Our skilled and qualified ice skating coaches are trained to help even the most anxious beginner.

Junior Blades Club

Junior Blades Ice Skating Club teaches skaters of all ages the basics of learning to skate the correct way by our professional coaches with assistance from Western Province senior skaters. Through our structured group classes, our skaters are taught the fundamentals to assist them on their journey to realise their dreams of becoming a champion ice skater, to represent their country and with the ultimate goals to compete at the Olympic games with the best in the world.
