Welcome to the home of Figure Skating in the Province. Our sport is governed by the Western Province branch of the South African Figure Skating Association (SAFSA). As the largest skating community in the country, we are fortunate to be able to offer Free Skating (solo), Pairs Skating, Ice-Dance and Synchronised Skating as well as a robust “Learn to Skate” program. LEARN TO SKATE
Western Province currently has two learn to skate clubs. Junior blades, which operates on a Saturday and Black Panthers who run on a Sunday. Both of these clubs adopt a similar syllabus and the vast majority of our competitive skaters have come through these clubs. Here a skater will progress through a series of grades which will be assessed by coaches and judges (in the higher grades). These clubs are affiliated to SAFSA but operate …
PRIVATE COACHING
Western Province has 9 full-time on-ice coaches, covering all aspects of figure skating, as well as 2 off-ice coaches and 1 dance/ballet coach. Skaters employ coaches directly and their fees vary. Most coaches offer group lessons as well which will reduce the lesson fee per skater. Please note that the coaches are not employed by SAFSA, nor the ice rink and are contracted on a “self-employed” basis. Private coaching is available in public sessions …
