Pairs Figure Skating
The perfect harmony of two skaters as one
About Pairs Skating
Where partnership meets athletic excellence
What is Pairs Skating?
Pairs skating combines the athleticism of singles skating with unique elements that can only be performed by two skaters together. Partners must demonstrate perfect unison while executing lifts, throws, paired spins, and synchronized jumps, creating a seamless blend of power and grace.
The Partnership
Success in pairs skating requires exceptional trust, communication, and chemistry between partners. Teams often train together for years to develop the synchronization and timing necessary for elite competition. The partnership extends beyond technical skills to artistic interpretation and emotional connection.
Training Commitment
Pairs teams typically train 5-6 days per week, focusing on individual skills, paired elements, and synchronization. Off-ice training includes strength conditioning, acrobatics, dance, and trust-building exercises essential for executing complex lifts and throws safely.

Finding the Right Partner
Creating successful partnerships
Height & Size Compatibility
Partners should have complementary heights and builds to facilitate lifts and maintain aesthetic balance. Typically, there's a height difference of 15-25cm between partners.
Skill Level Matching
Both skaters should have similar technical abilities, particularly in jumping and spinning techniques, to achieve the required synchronization.
Personality & Goals
Compatible personalities, work ethics, and shared competitive goals are essential for long-term partnership success and growth.
