Ice Dance

Where rhythm meets precision in perfect harmony

About Ice Dance

The most artistic discipline in figure skating consisting of the traditional Couples Ice Dance and the new addition of Solo Ice Dance

What is Ice Dance?

Ice dance is the discipline of figure skating that draws most closely from ballroom dancing. Partners perform intricate footwork, dance holds, and expressive movements to interpret music with precision and artistry. Unlike pairs, ice dancers focus on intricate steps, deep edges, and musical interpretation rather than jumps and throws.

Musical Expression

Ice dance places the highest emphasis on musical interpretation and rhythm. Every movement must reflect the character and tempo of the music, creating a seamless blend of athleticism and artistry that tells a story through movement.

Technical Precision

While appearing effortless, ice dance requires exceptional edge quality, precise timing, and perfect unison. Dancers must maintain specific holds, execute complex turns and steps, and demonstrate mastery of compulsory patterns.
